Basic characteristics of the product
Sodium bifluoride is a colorless or white crystalline powder with fine texture, uniform particles, strong hygroscopicity and acidic odor. As a fluorine-containing inorganic compound, it is stable at room temperature, but it will rapidly undergo hydrolysis reaction when it comes into contact with water, releasing hydrofluoric acid and accompanied by heat release. This characteristic makes it very active in industrial applications, but it also puts forward higher safety requirements for storage and use.
This product has a purity of ≥98%, which is an industrial-grade high-purity raw material. It is suitable for processing and production scenarios with high requirements for chemical purity, such as glass etching, metal surface treatment, biological sample preservation and other fields. Its high purity ensures reaction efficiency and product stability in complex chemical reactions, and reduces the interference of impurities on the process flow.
Sodium bifluoride is highly soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is strongly acidic. It can quickly react with glass, ceramics, metal oxides and other substances, showing extremely strong corrosiveness. It decomposes in water to produce fluoride ions and hydrofluoric acid, which can corrode glassware and even have a certain impact on some plastic materials. Therefore, this product is not suitable for glass containers. It is recommended to use fluorine-resistant materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene or polytetrafluoroethylene as packaging and storage containers.
Application fields
Due to its unique chemical properties, sodium bifluoride is widely used in the following fields:
Preservation and preservation of food and biological samples: Sodium bifluoride can inhibit the growth of bacteria and mold, so it is often used for food preservation and antiseptic treatment, especially for long-term preservation of animal specimens and anatomical specimens. In the fields of medicine and museums, the use of such chemicals can ensure that biological samples can maintain structural integrity and clear appearance during long-term storage.
Glass etching and metal surface treatment: Sodium bifluoride has a strong corrosive effect on glass and is an important chemical additive in glass engraving and etching processes. By mixing it with water to form a hydrofluoric acid solution, the glass surface can be finely processed to form decorative patterns or functional coatings. In addition, the product is also widely used in the manufacturing process of tinplate, for cleaning and treating metal surfaces, and improving the adhesion and corrosion resistance of metals.
Textile processing and leather insect control: In the textile industry, sodium bifluoride can be used in fabric pretreatment processes to improve the chemical stability and dyeing uniformity of fibers. At the same time, it has good insecticidal and mildew-proof properties, and can be used for insect control of leather products, effectively extending the service life and appearance preservation of leather.
Rust remover and metal welding aid: Sodium bifluoride has excellent rust removal ability, can quickly dissolve the oxide layer and rust spots on the metal surface, and is an efficient chemical rust remover for cleaning metal parts such as steel. After mixing it with potassium fluoride, it can be used as a flux for welding metals, especially for welding processes of non-ferrous metals such as aluminum and magnesium, to improve welding quality and firmness.
Safety and transportation precautions
Although sodium bifluoride is widely used, it has certain corrosiveness and irritation. The following operating requirements must be strictly followed during transportation and storage:
Packaging and moisture-proof: The product must be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse. The packaging bag must be sealed intact to avoid moisture absorption or mixing with acid chemicals.
Operation protection: Workers should wear protective gloves, protective glasses and masks when handling the product to prevent inhalation of dust or contact with the skin.
Environmentally friendly and non-toxic: Sodium bifluoride itself is a non-toxic product. It will not cause harm to the environment or personnel under correct operation and storage and transportation, but it cannot be mixed with strong acids and alkalis to prevent dangerous chemical reactions.
