Physical properties and storage recommendations of ammonium fluoroborate
Ammonium fluoroborate is a colorless needle-shaped crystal with good stability and operability at room temperature and pressure. Its molecular structure is compact, with a molecular weight of 104.86. The crystal appearance is clear and transparent, and the particles are uniform, which is convenient for application in various precision proportions and process control. In a high temperature environment, the substance has sublimation properties. When heated to about 110°C, it begins to decompose and release gaseous products. Therefore, its reaction environment needs to be specially controlled in high temperature processes to prevent side reactions or pollution caused by thermal decomposition.
One of the biggest physical and chemical properties of ammonium fluoroborate is its extremely soluble nature in water, which can be completely dissolved in a short time to form a clear solution. However, the aqueous solution is obviously acidic and has a certain corrosiveness, especially for glassware. This is because fluoroboric ions have a certain hydrolysis ability in water, which may release trace amounts of active hydrofluoric acid, thereby corroding the silicate structure. Therefore, when preparing and storing solutions containing ammonium fluoroborate, ordinary glass containers should be avoided. It is recommended to use containers made of materials such as high-density polyethylene, polypropylene or polytetrafluoroethylene to ensure the long-term stability of the container and the purity of the contents without contamination.
In addition, ammonium fluoroborate is insoluble in alcohols, which provides convenient conditions for its separation, crystallization and selective solvent operation in multiphase systems. In some organic synthesis and fine chemical scenarios, this "selective solubility" makes it an ideal step-by-step reaction control or precipitation refining material. Compared with other fluorine-containing salts, it has better compatibility and process flexibility for a variety of organic reaction systems.
In industrial product standards, the purity of ammonium fluoroborate can usually reach more than 98%, which is suitable for use in many fields such as welding additives, metal treatment, pesticide additives, flame retardants, dyeing and finishing catalysts, etc. Its quality is stable and its chemical activity is controllable. Especially in production lines that require high consistency and reaction activity ratios, it can significantly improve the overall process efficiency and finished product quality.
In order to meet the packaging and transportation needs of diverse customers, ammonium fluoroborate usually adopts two standard packaging forms: 25 kg composite bags are suitable for small batches or experimental use, which is convenient for manual handling and batch use; 100 kg cardboard barrels are suitable for large-scale production or long-term storage, and use lined moisture-proof sealed bags and double-layer barrels to ensure moisture-proof, breakage-proof and volatilization during transportation. The product can be stored stably for a long time in a conventional dry and cool environment, but it should still be avoided from co-storage with strong alkalis, strong acids, strong oxidants and other substances, and kept away from moisture, open flames and high temperature places to prevent product degradation or loss of activity.
Ammonium fluoroborate releases fluorine-containing gas when heated, so when used in laboratories or production sites, it should be equipped with a good ventilation system, and personal protective equipment such as protective gloves, goggles and anti-corrosion masks can be worn when necessary to ensure the safety of operators. For industrial users, automatic feeding systems, dissolving devices and automatic weighing devices can also be configured according to actual application needs to improve the ratio accuracy and on-site management level.
Widely used in multiple key areas
Key flux in the welding industry: In the welding process of aluminum, aluminum alloys, copper alloys and other metals, ammonium fluoroborate is widely used as a high-efficiency flux, which can effectively remove the oxide film on the metal surface and improve the cleanliness and bonding strength of the welded joint. It has a low melting point and high activity, and is particularly suitable for parts that require high cleanliness and strict melting point control in welding, such as automotive parts, electronic devices and high-precision metal components. Ammonium fluoroborate can significantly reduce welding temperature, improve process efficiency and reduce welding defects.
Antioxidant additive for magnesium alloy casting: In the magnesium alloy casting process, magnesium is very easy to oxidize and burn. Ammonium fluoroborate is often added to the casting process as an antioxidant protective agent on the surface of molten metal to form a stable protective film and reduce the risk of oxidation, inhalation and combustion. Its stable fluorine boron ions can effectively prevent oxygen from reacting with metal magnesium, thereby improving the surface quality of castings, reducing the rework rate, and improving the overall process safety of castings.
Environmentally friendly flame retardant: Ammonium fluoroborate can also be used as a halogen-free flame retardant additive for some polymer materials, and it can inhibit thermal decomposition and smoke in materials such as plastics, rubber, and coatings. Compared with traditional halogen-containing flame retardants, ammonium fluoroborate does not produce toxic hydrogen chloride gas, which meets the current environmental protection and low toxicity requirements, and is widely used in products that require flame retardant properties such as construction, transportation, and home appliances.
Additive ingredients for agricultural pesticides: In the agricultural field, ammonium fluoroborate can be used as an intermediate or additive for pesticides and insecticides to improve the penetration and adhesion of pesticides. It can form a compound with specific organic pesticides to enhance insecticidal activity, improve the wettability of pesticides on plant leaves, and improve prevention and control efficiency. It has been widely used in insect control systems for fruit trees, vegetables, grains and other crops, especially for species with strong resistance to pests.
Resin fixatives and catalysts in textile printing and dyeing: Ammonium fluoroborate is also widely used in the textile printing and dyeing industry. As a catalyst and fixative aid for resin finishing, it can effectively improve the adhesion of dyes and the color fastness of fabrics. Its acidic and active ion structure helps promote the cross-linking reaction of resin, improve the wrinkle resistance, shrinkage resistance and washability of fabrics, and is widely used in the finishing process of various fabrics such as cotton, linen, and polyester.
